About me, and why WPops Land is small on purpose
I’m Christian Ashby, and I run WPops Land. For more than 20 years I have been a cloud and hosting solution architect, designing and running platforms for some of the UK’s largest businesses. I have worked with cloud platforms for as long as they have existed.
How the platform came about
I volunteer for a local arts education group, and their website was stuck between the two choices small organisations keep ending up with. Cheap hosting left them with a public login page, patchy backups and nobody to ring. The premium managed hosts were good but priced for agencies and larger companies.
In September 2025 I started building a platform for them, to the standards I built to for my enterprise customers as a solution architect: Google Cloud in London, containers on Kubernetes, the admin login behind Google sign-in, backups every night, and the whole platform defined as code so it can be rebuilt. That is how WPops Land started. A performing-arts school, a hire business, a community theatre group and other small organisations now run their sites and apps on it.
Why it stays small
I keep the number of clients small so that I know every site I host, what it’s for and who to call about it. When something needs attention I don’t have to look you up, and I fix problems on the platform as a whole, so a fix for one site is a fix for all of them.
Small also means I say no sometimes. If your site needs a team watching it around the clock, a larger host will suit you better, and I’ll tell you so.
How support works
You raise a ticket from the dashboard, send me an email or call 020 3422 9767, and it comes to me. I reply within 24 hours. If your site goes down, the monitoring alerts me and I start on it straight away. For quick questions about your own site, the AI assistant in the dashboard can look up logs and settings while you wait, and it can pass anything it can’t answer to me.
What I won’t do
- Sell your details or put advertising in your dashboard.
- Install plugins that change your content or how your site looks without asking you first. The platform’s own plugins for login protection, caching and email are part of the hosting, and I keep those up to date.
- Lock you in. If you leave, you get a copy of your site and help moving your domain.
- Promise things I can’t measure, such as “unhackable” or “never goes down”.
Where your data lives
Your site, its database and its nightly backups are held in Google Cloud’s London region. Images and other public files are also served from Google’s global content delivery network. A few services sit outside the platform, such as the AI assistant and the service that delivers your site’s email, and the privacy policy lists each one.
What clients say
Our website has been hosted with WPops.land since Christian started building the platform, and we simply don’t think about it any more. It’s fast and it stays up. When we need a change, it’s usually done the same day.
The stage school app was the real surprise. I had a clear picture in my head of how our office should run: enrolments, fees, who has paid and who still owes, all checked against the bank. Within days that was a working system our staff could use. WPops.land took the way I think about the school and built software that works the same way, and when something didn’t quite fit, it was changed the next day.
