Outgrowing SiteGround? A managed UK option
SiteGround is a large hosting company with WordPress plans that start at a few pounds a month. WPops Land is one person running a small platform in London. If your site has grown past the starter plan, or the renewal price has arrived, here is how the two compare.

- Where SiteGround is stronger
The short answer
SiteGround is much cheaper in the first year, and its StartUp and GrowBig renewal prices are still lower than WPops Land. It suits people who want 24/7 chat and email accounts included, and who are happy to look after their site through a control panel.
WPops Land costs more and suits a UK business that wants someone to look after the site: updates, staging, backups, DNS and email records handled by one person it can phone, with the WordPress login behind Google sign-in.

The price
SiteGround quotes three WordPress plans, each prepaid for 12 months and excluding VAT. On 19 October 2026 StartUp was £1.99 a month renewing at £13.99, GrowBig £3.99 renewing at £23.99, and GoGeek £5.99 renewing at £34.99. The page shows the renewal price next to the starting price.
A like-for-like comparison needs staging, which starts on GrowBig. That is £3.99 a month in the first year and £23.99 a month after it, against £25 a month for WPops Land. SiteGround is cheaper in both years. What WPops Land adds for the difference is the service described below.
Where SiteGround is the better choice
- Price, in the first year and after it.
- Support at any hour. Live chat runs 24/7 and there is a UK phone number. I reply within 24 hours and the monitoring alerts me when a site goes down, but I’m one person.
- Email accounts. Every SiteGround plan includes email. The WPops Land plan sends your site’s own mail, such as contact forms and order confirmations; mailboxes are a separate service.
- Doing it yourself. You can restore backups from Site Tools, and GrowBig and GoGeek let you take on-demand backups.
- More than one site. GrowBig and GoGeek host unlimited websites. On WPops Land each extra production site costs £20 a month.
- Data centres. Eleven locations on four continents, and you can move your site between them.
- More products. Domains, a website builder and email marketing are sold alongside the hosting.
Where WPops Land differs
- Someone else does the work. I keep WordPress, plugins and themes up to date, and I have tuned the caching for Breakdance, Elementor and the block editor.
- Staging on the one plan, free, and I clone your live site into it and promote it back when you’re ready.
- The login is behind Google sign-in. Before a WordPress login form appears, the visitor has to sign in with a Google account you’ve listed, so bots scanning for login pages get nothing back.
- DNS and email authentication are done for you. You edit DNS from the dashboard with full change history, and I set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC and read the reports.
- A fully managed security front door. Every site sits behind Google Cloud Armor, a web application firewall and DDoS protection, with the WordPress login behind Google sign-in. There’s nothing to configure and no option to switch it off.
- The same price every month. £25 from the first month, with no renewal rise.
- One person who knows your site. Tickets, emails and calls to 020 3422 9767 come to me.
Who should pick which
Stay with SiteGround if price matters most, if you’re happy to update and look after WordPress yourself, if you want email accounts in the same bill, or if you run many small sites on one plan.
Choose WPops Land if your site now earns or matters enough that you’d rather someone else kept it updated, backed up and secure, and you want to phone the person who does it.
If you’re still deciding whether managed hosting is worth paying for at all, the guide to cPanel hosting and managed WordPress sets out what changes.
Moving across
Your first migration is free. I copy your files and database, test the site on the new platform, then switch the domain once you’ve checked it. Email records and redirects are part of the move. If your mailboxes are with SiteGround, tell me before we start and we’ll plan where they go. See pricing or tell me about your site.
Questions
Anything else: ask me.
Is WPops Land cheaper than SiteGround?
No. SiteGround’s GrowBig plan, the first with staging, renews at £23.99 a month excluding VAT; WPops Land is £25 a month.
Do you host email accounts?
Not as part of the £25 plan. I host mailboxes on your own domain as a separate service, so ask me about it. If you keep your mail with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, I add the DNS records for it in one step.
Can SiteGround host my site in London?
Yes. London is one of its 11 data centres.
